Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a leading UK conservation organisation saving wetlands for wildlife and people across the world.

Founded in 1946 by the naturalist and artist, the late Sir Peter Scott, WWT is the only UK charity with a national network of nine specialist wetland visitor centres. With over 60 years experience of wetland conservation, WWT is committed to the protection of wetlands and all that depend on them for survival.

Below you'll find a selection of the gifts available through these websites - whether you're buying from a wedding list that a couple has registered with The Green Wedding List or buying someone an individual 'virtual' gift for their birthday from gifts4good do consider supporting WWT.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Feed a brood of ducklings

Feed a brood of ducklings

Since 1946, WWT staff have cared for 95% of the world's recognised wildfowl species (154 of 163 species), achieving the first breeding records for 63 ducks, geese and swans, along the way. This donation could feed a brood of ducklings for the first two months of their lives, a critical period in their development.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Track a flamingo

Track a flamingo

Since 2002 the WWT research team has been working, with others, to satellite track flamingos and our work has identified sites used by the Lesser Flamingo in East Africa so they can be protected and conserved. This donation could fund one day's tracking.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust A nest box for a Scaly-sided Merganser

A nest box for a Scaly-sided Merganser

The Scaly-sided Merganser currently has a population of around 1,000 individuals and continues to undergo rapid decline. However, breeding populations in Russia increased slightly after the introduction of a nest box programme in areas struck by deforestation. This donation could pay for a nest box for these globally threatened birds.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Manage our reserves

Manage our reserves

WWT create and restore wetlands to help reverse the loss of these important areas throughout the world. In the UK, our own 2,000 hectares of wetland wildlife reserves provide winter refuge for more than 150,000 waterbirds. This donation could allow us to manage approximately 50 sqm of reserve for a whole year.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Feed a pair of flamingos raising a chick

Feed a pair of flamingos raising a chick

Through conservation-breeding and education programes, WWT is working to halt the decline of the lesser flamingo and many other species. This donation could feed a pair of flamingos caring for a chick.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust A mink raft

A mink raft

Formerly common throughout mainland Britain, the water vole has suffered a dramatic decline over the last century. Mink are now their main predator and they can be wiped out forever in an area by a single incident. This donation could pay for mink raft which would allow us to monitor the movement of the Water Voles' most destructive predator.

£80.00
Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust A radio transmitter for a Brazilian Merganser

A radio transmitter for a Brazilian Merganser

The Brazilian Merganser is one of the world's most threatened bird species. Although we know where many of the remaining birds live we know little about their movements throughout the year or about how they use their habitats. This donation could buy a radio transmitter, giving us detailed information about their habitat use, movements and social interactions.

£100.00
Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Water Vole conservation

Water Vole conservation

The water vole has suffered a dramatic decline over the last century. WWT is home to water vole populations at six of its Wetland Centres where they are a primary consideration in managing the sites, not least because they are an indicator of the general health of the wetlands. This donation could pay for a project officer to work in one of our Water Vole conservation areas, carrying out vital habitat management or survey work, for a day.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Transform land into wet grassland habitat

Transform land into wet grassland habitat

In order to establish the right habitat for breeding waders we need to create specific types of vegetation on the grassland; manipulate the water levels so the waders can feed adequately and build nests on the ground without being flooded out; and install effective measures against predators to protect young waders until they can fly. This donation could enable us to transform 1 hectare of arable land into valuable wet grassland habitat.
